Anti-ageing products are always on demand in the skincare industry. They help prevent or delay damage caused by free radicals present in the ultraviolet radiations coming from the sun and pollution from the external environment. Idebenone has long been known in the pharmaceutical industry in the treatment of Alzheimer disease and as an antioxidant, after organ transplant but in skincare industry it has recently gained the popularity. Researches have shown us that Idebenone is more potent than vitamin C, vitamin E, coenzyme Q10, kinetin, and alpha-lipoic acid.

What is Idebenone?

Idebenone is the powerful antioxidant, similar to the coenzyme Q-10. It is a synthetic analogue of coenzyme Q-10 having a lower molecular weight, making it a thousand times more potent than its analogue. Due to its lower molecular weight, it can penetrate deep in the skin.

1- Anti-aging

Ultra-violent lights, smoke, and air pollution damage the collagen, DNA, and skin cells by producing free radicals which ultimately produces wrinkles and brown spots. Vitamin E provides resistance against this process by neutralizing free radicals. Research has shown us that even a small amount of exposure to ultra-violent by getting out in the sun can reduce the 50 % of the Vitamin E. That means vitamin is fighting against free radicals.

2- It keeps your skin hydrated:

Idebenone can penetrate deep into the skin cells. It maintains the integrity of the skin barrier and keeps your skin healthy and hydrated.

3- Prevents dark circles and wrinkling of skin.
Idebenone can prevent the formation of dark circles and wrinkling of skin. It freshens your skin and make it hydrating, glowing and fresh.

The limited number of studies have been conducted on Idebenone. One research recruited forty-one middle-age female, idebenone lotion was applied twice a day for six weeks.

Results have shown us that after six weeks use of Idebenone lotion, there is a 26% reduction in skin roughness, 29% reduction in fine lines and wrinkling. Skin hydration was improved up to 37% and there is 33% improvement in overall photodamaged skin. Idebenone also helped the formation of collagen type 1. (1)

Idebenone is available in in the formulation of the creams, lotions, serums and combination with other formultations. You can apply lotions and cream twice daily. Idebenone is safe to use and does not cause any skin reaction or allergy. It can be applied to any skin type. Always consult your doctor if you have any skin disease and you want to apply idebenone. Little research is available so we cannot say that it is safe for use on any type of skin diseases.
