While sleeplessness and fatigue may seem like the most logical explanation for this condition but there are other factors too that contribute to dark circles.

Fatigue and Sleep Deprivation

Lack of sleep causes your skin to become pale and dull. As a result, the dark tissues and blood vessels beneath your skin become visible. Also, sleeplessness causes fluid to build beneath your eyes and become puffy.

  • Age

As you grow old, your skin becomes thinner and lose fat and collagen, which are the key factor in maintaining skin elasticity. Blood vessels beneath your eye become visible causing darkening.

Dehydration

The fluid is necessary for maintaining skin turgor. When our body is not receiving the required fluid, the skin beneath the eyes looks sunken and dull.

Genetics

Researchers have found out that genetics plays a major part in developing dark circles. It runs in family, if one of the family members has dark circles under his eyes, these also appear in some other family members.

Sun overexposure

When sun rays hit our skin, it stimulates the production of melanin, a pigment that provides color to your skin. Too much sun exposure causes excess production of melanin and darkening of the skin, especially under the eyes.
